Runway Features
Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport Umueri has a runway that is measured 3.7 km in length and 45m width, it is designated 06/24, it is equipped with CAT II high-intensity runway lights for safe operations in low visibility. The runway has RESA at both end.
The runway markings complies with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and ICAO standard/recommended practices. The Markings clearly indicates the centerlines, thresholds, Edge, Touch Down zones etc, aiding pilots in navigation during takeoff and landing. It is classified as Code 4E and a critical aircraft and can take any aircraft.
Navigational Aids And Instrument Landing Aids
Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport Umueri is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS)/DLA, Doppler Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Range (DVOR)/Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and finally Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), This is to ensure accurate and safe guidance of aircraft to the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport.
Apron
The Apron at Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport Umueri is constructed to accommodate upwards of eight Boeing747. It is measured 300 by 200 meters, and concrete thickness of 560mm to ensure durability.

Technical Buildings
The Control Tower at Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport Umueri is a modern, multi-story facility designed for effective Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS)/ Air Traffic Management (ATM). It offers panoramic views of the runway and taxiways, allowing controllers to monitor all ground and aerial activities.
The Technical Buildings is equipped with advanced technology to ensures safe and efficient coordination between pilots and ground personnel, adhering to aviation standards. It also houses the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, which provides weather information for safe aircraft operation.
Fire Station
The fire station at Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport Umueri is equipped with three Zeigler Z6 firefighting vehicles, designed for rapid response to emergencies by the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) personnel, it also has water tanker to ensure continuous water supply to the fire trucks especially during operations. The fire station also accommodate a kitchen, restaurant, gym, conference room, cool room, training hall and several offices and stores.
The station also features a fire tower offering a panoramic view of the runway, allowing personnel to monitor activities and respond swiftly when needed, it is presently a Cat 6 ARFFS.
EOC/Clinic
The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and ambulance-equipped clinic at Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport Umueri are vital for passenger and staff welfare.
The EOC acts as the command centre for emergency response coordination, equipped with advanced communication technologies for real-time management. The adjacent clinic is staffed with medical personnel and equipped with essential medical tools, ready to handle emergencies and provide immediate care. Ambulances are on standby for rapid patient transport, reinforcing the airport’s commitment to health and safety.
